About Our Materials

At Juneau Gold Online (Alaska Rugged Wear), every piece is handcrafted right here in Juneau by me, Ron—a bench jeweler with over 20 years of experience designing and making jewelry that stands up to Southeast Alaska's wild weather and active lifestyles.

While I create each item in my local workspace, the materials themselves are carefully selected from trusted suppliers to perfectly match and evoke the stunning colors and essence of our Southeast Alaska environment:

  • Beach glass tones (soft blues, greens, and frosted whites) — Inspired by the wave-tumbled treasures found on Alaskan shores and the shimmering waters of our fjords and channels.
  • Forest greens (like jade-inspired stones) — Echoing the lush, rain-drenched Tongass rainforest that surrounds Juneau.
  • Turquoise hues — Reflecting glacial meltwaters, misty skies, and the vibrant pops of color in our coastal landscapes.
  • Warm coppers and earth tones — Capturing golden sunsets over mountains, rocky beaches, and the raw patina of our rugged terrain.
  • Freshwater pearls — Adding soft luminosity that mirrors calm fjords and gentle mists.

These colors and elements are chosen deliberately to make the jewelry feel like a true piece of Southeast Alaska—beautiful, durable, and meaningful—even though the stones, pearls, metals, and glass are sourced from quality suppliers (not mined or gathered directly from local sites in Southeast). This approach lets me focus on crafting pieces that are:

  • Weather-resistant and tough enough for rainy hikes, beach walks, boat tours, or glacier excursions.
  • Lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear during your cruise adventures.
  • One-of-a-kind or limited in feel, thanks to handmade techniques and natural variations in the materials.

Real local artistry inspired by the place I call home. My goal is to give cruise passengers (and locals alike) an authentic Juneau-made souvenir that captures the spirit of our rain-soaked, adventurous corner of Alaska—without the mass-produced feel of typical port shops.
